Will your screen be placed outdoors or in a window? If so, a standard indoor display is usually not the right choice. In this guide, we’ll explain what makes outdoor and window displays different, and what you should consider before choosing one.
Why not use a standard display?
Outdoor and window displays need to withstand much harsher conditions than standard indoor displays. They are designed to perform in direct sunlight, rain, cold and heat, which also makes them significantly more expensive – typically three to four times the price of a standard indoor display.

Understanding the model numbers
Samsung has dedicated product ranges for outdoor and window displays. The model number makes it easy to identify what each display is designed for.
For outdoor and window displays, the model number begins with O. The next letter indicates its intended use:
- OM models are designed for window displays.
- OH models are designed for outdoor use.
The remaining letters and numbers identify the product generation and model version.
Software considerations
It’s worth noting that only some of these models are supplied with Samsung’s latest software platform. Older models still work well with PinToMind but have some limitations. For example, they do not support external web pages or Microsoft Power BI.
Common features
All models are designed for 24/7 operation and include built-in sensors that automatically adjust brightness to match the surrounding light conditions.
Outdoor models are also weather-resistant (minimum IP56) and impact-resistant (IK10), making them suitable for demanding environments.
Other specifications vary between models.
Outdoor displays
Outdoor displays (OH) with the latest software
- OHDX delivers 3,500 nits of brightness, making content easy to read even in direct sunlight. It has a slim 69 mm profile and is available in 46” and 55” sizes.
- OHB 24” is a compact display with a relatively modest brightness of 1,500 nits for outdoor use. However, it offers the highest level of water and dust protection in this range (IP66).
Outdoor displays (OH) with older software
- OHA 75” and OHB 46” both provide 3,500 nits of brightness and are water-, dust- and impact-resistant.
- The OHN series consists of very large (and very expensive) outdoor displays designed specifically for outdoor advertising. All models offer 3,000 nits of brightness. This includes the OHN 85” and OHN-S 85”.
- We do not recommend the larger displays in the OHF series for use with PinToMind, as they run on a very old operating system.
Window displays
Window displays (OM) with the latest software
The OMDX delivers 2,000 nits of brightness, making content clearly visible even in direct sunlight or when viewed through sunglasses. It is dust-resistant but not waterproof (IP5X). Thanks to its slim 45.6 mm design, it is particularly well suited for shop window installations. It is available in a single 32” size.
Window displays (OM) with older software
The remaining models in the OM series are all 54.5 mm thick and are available in a range of sizes and brightness levels.
You can also choose the larger OMA 75” with 4,000 nits (85.4 mm), or a double-sided window display in 55” (69.5 mm, 3,000/1,000 nits).
Choosing a display for outdoor or window use means considering a few additional factors. Above all, make sure the display is bright enough for its surroundings, and choose a model that offers the right level of protection against weather and physical impact.
