– We used to put up posters around the gym, but people would often walk straight past without noticing them. With digital signage on the walls, they pay attention in a completely different way, says Live Anfinsen Håland.

At Boost, a fitness centre in Haugesund, Norway, digital signage is used to share information with members, display café menus, promote in-house offers, show daily workouts and sell advertising space to local businesses.

– There’s always something we need to communicate to our members and visitors, and our 22 screens give us a great way to do exactly that,” says Live, who manages the gym.

Easier to manage – and more professional

At Boost, ease of use is essential. Previously, they relied on posters and printed notices to share information, but often struggled to get their message across.

Now, keeping information up to date is much simpler.

With digital signage, they can quickly publish both images and text without printing, copying or putting up new posters around the facility.

Digital signage in the cardio area keeps members informed throughout their workout.

– It’s incredibly easy to update the screens with whatever information we want to share. Much easier than using USB sticks, making copies and putting things up with tape, Live points out.

When content can be updated digitally, it is also much easier to keep information relevant and current. At the same time, the screens help create a cleaner and more professional environment throughout the facility.

For Live, it is also about the overall impression members and visitors get when they arrive. They are welcomed by a gym that feels modern, organised and professional.

From reception to workout zones, digital signage helps create a seamless member experience.

More visible information and tidier facilities

One of the ways the gym uses its screens is to encourage good habits among members. Reminders about cleaning up after workouts and helping keep the facility tidy are displayed regularly throughout the day.

The impact has been noticeable.

– Since we started doing this, the gym has become much cleaner and tidier. Both our staff and members really appreciate it, Live adds.

From café menus to real-time workout information

The screens are used throughout the facility. In the café area, they display menus and pricing. Elsewhere, they are used to promote offers, share practical information and communicate with members.

In some areas, the screens are also integrated directly into the training experience.

– In our HIIT studio, where several activities take place during the same session, the screen displays the workout of the day. Both participants and instructors can easily follow what exercises are coming next. It helps everyone keep track of the workout throughout the session, Live explains.

Digital signage creates additional revenue

The screens are not only used for the gym’s own communication. Boost also sells advertising space to local businesses.

With a steady flow of members and visitors throughout the day, the screens provide an attractive platform for local advertising.

– It’s a great place to advertise, and it gives the gym an additional source of revenue, she says.

– I think digital signage can add value to any fitness centre. It creates a much more organised and professional environment, Live concludes.
