Two-factor login and updated terms

Now you can choose to activate Two-factor authentication for login at PinToMind! It significantly increases the security of your account. At the same time, we have updated our Data Processing Agreement with a new sub-data supplier, Sveve, which we now use to send SMSes with one-time codes.
Two-factor authentication - what and why?
Two-factor authentication provides extra security around login, and is used by an increasing number of digital services. The term Two-factor authentication comes from the fact that you authenticate yourself, confirm who you are, using two factors when you log in.
When logging in to PinToMind on a new device, the two factors are password and single use code. This provides significantly better protection than passwords alone, because the single use code is only available with physical access to your mobile phone.
Four smart options
We offer four options in relation to activating two-factor authentication with us. You decide which ones you want to use, but we recommend that you add all for best functionality and security:
- Code from Authenticator app: Receiving single use codes from an Authenticator app is the most secure option, so this is a good place to start. If you don’t already have such an app on your phone, you can download Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator from GooglePlay or the AppStore.
- Code via SMS: You can also choose to receive codes via SMS. It is primarily a good back-up if for some reason you do not have access to the Authenticator app.
- Codes for recovery: This is a set of backup recovery codes that you download and store in a secure location. The backup codes can be good to have in case of emergency, for example if you can’t access the device with the Authenticator app.
- E-mail when logging in on a new device: Finally, it also provides additional security with an email notification if someone logs in with your user on a new device.
New in the Data Processing Agreement
In connection with the introduction of Two-factor authentication, we had to find a service to be able to send the single use codes by SMS. We have chosen Sveve, a Norwegian service that stores and processes all data in the EU/EEA.
We have added a new section about Sveve in our Data Processing Agreement, in the list of sub-processors. See the relevant section here if you would like to have a closer look at this. At the bottom of the updated agreement, you can also download the signed version of the updated Data Processing Agreement.
